Yes, you will distinctly see the Milky Way in Bryce after 9 pm. If you are interested in star trails, walking down along the Navajo loop trail (only 2 switchbacks to the last railed area with flat terrain) will allow a good view of Polaris (North Star) imaging to the north with Hoodoos in the foreground.įor Sunrise/Sunset – Sunrise is a must easiest for you will be at Sunset Point or to walk below the rim (at Sunset Point) along the Navajo Trail.Īs mentioned above, yes the Milky Way will appear in the same direction throughout your trip. A view to the south (allowing views of the central core of the Milky Way) with Hoodoos in the foreground should be along Fairyland Trail. Many views within Bryce Canyon are to the East. During your trip at the end of September (near the time of the new moon) the central core of the Milky Way will be rising vertically to the South-South-West beginning after 9 pm Mountain time. For that trip, I imaged the Milky Way arching over Bryce Canyon to the East from about 2 switchbacks below the rim along the Navajo loop trail above Thor’s Hammer. Also, see my review from March 21, 2016: Sunset, Star Viewing, Sunrise which includes a Milky Way image. You can read my trip report in a forum post from March 22, 2016: Trip Report: Sunset, Clear, Cold, Dark Night Sky, Sunrise. Not sure your interest in night photography.
